豊臣秀次が築いた城下町に開かれた運河「八幡堀」は、白壁の蔵や柳並木が水面に映り、映画やドラマのロケ地としても知られています。新町通りには近江商人の旧家が並び、当時の暮らしを今に伝えます。鍵之手町・為心町の二棟は、いずれもこのエリアを散策の起点にできる立地です。 Hachiman-bori, the canal opened alongside the castle town built by Toyotomi Hidetsugu, reflects whitewashed storehouses and rows of willow trees — a favorite location for films and TV dramas. Along Shinmachi-dori, the former residences of Omi merchants still line the street. Both the Kaginote-machi and Tameshin-cho houses make a perfect base for exploring this area on foot.
豊臣秀吉が初めて自分の城を構えた長浜。黒漆喰の旧銀行を中心とした「黒壁スクエア」には、ガラス工芸の工房やギャラリー、カフェが軒を連ね、歴史と現代の感性が溶け合うエリアです。琵琶湖の湖畔も近く、湖国らしい開放的な景色が広がります。元浜町の一棟はこの黒壁スクエアに隣接しています。 Nagahama was where Toyotomi Hideyoshi built his very first castle. Centered on a former bank built in black plaster, Kurokabe Square is now home to glass-craft studios, galleries, and cafés — a place where history and modern sensibility meet. Lake Biwa's shoreline is nearby, with the open, lakeside views the region is known for. The Motohama-cho house sits right next to Kurokabe Square.
近江八幡・長浜から車で足を延ばせば、琵琶湖の北西に広がる高島エリアへ。メタセコイア並木や白鬚神社の湖中鳥居など、四季ごとに表情を変える風景が旅人を迎えます。湖畔をドライブしながら、各地の道の駅や直売所で湖国の味覚を楽しむのもおすすめです。 A short drive from Omihachiman and Nagahama brings you to Takashima, on the lake's northwest shore. The Metasequoia avenue and the lake-floating torii gate of Shirahige Shrine are just two of the views that change with every season. A scenic drive along the lakeshore — stopping at local markets for regional flavors — is a wonderful way to spend a day.
